A basic funeral
Every person covered under your AVBOB policy gets a FREE basic funeral valued at R13 000* from AVBOB Funeral Service. This includes:
- Assistance obtaining required documents
- Mortuary and cooling facilities
- Funeral arrangements
- R283 towards a funeral notice in a newspaper of your choice
- Preparing your loved one for burial or cremation
- An ash coffin, if required
- A specified coffin
- The use of a specified hearse
- The use of a lowering device at the graveside
- A graveside tent and 20 chairs
A R2 500 immediate cash payment

That’s why, if you have an AVBOB funeral policy*, as part of the FREE funeral benefits * from AVBOB Funeral Service, you will receive an immediate cash payment of R2 500 for initial expenses. The R2 500 cash payment is in addition to your full policy pay-out and does not lower your funeral cover claim amount.

- Be an AVBOB funeral policyholder
- Your policy must be in force for at least 24 months
- Your premiums must be up to date
- You must appoint AVBOB Funeral Service to conduct the funeral
- The person who arranges the funeral of the insured person
- Usually the policyholder or the beneficiary named in the policy, or anyone else appointed to make the funeral arrangements
- The money is paid using an instant money voucher
- A voucher number and a PIN code is sent to the cellphone number of the person arranging the funeral
- He/she must then go to a Standard Bank ATM or their local SPAR to withdraw the money
- You don’t have to be a Standard Bank client to withdraw the money
- Simply follow these steps:
- Go to your nearest AVBOB Funeral Service branch to arrange the funeral
- AVBOB Funeral Service will check if the policy you are claiming against was in force for 24 months or longer so that you can claim the R3 000 immediate cash benefit
- If the policy qualifies, the AVBOB Funeral Service agent will take down your details and cellphone number and request the payment on our system
- You will get an SMS with a voucher number and a PIN code on your cellphone. Make sure you keep these numbers safe because anyone who has them can withdraw the money
- Go to your nearest Standard Bank ATM with your cellphone
- At the ATM choose “Collect Voucher”
- Enter the voucher number and PIN code that was sent to your cellphone
- Collect your money (the full amount must be withdrawn at once)
- Go to your nearest AVBOB Funeral Service branch to arrange the funeral
- AVBOB Funeral Service will check if the policy you are claiming against was in force for 24 months or longer so that you can claim the R3 000 immediate cash benefit
- If you qualify, the AVBOB Funeral Service agent will take down your details and cellphone number and request the payment on our system
- You will get an SMS with the voucher number and a PIN code on your cellphone. Make sure you keep these numbers safe because anyone who has them can withdraw the money
- Go to your local SPAR
- Give the voucher number and PIN code to the cashier
- Collect your money (the full amount must be withdrawn at once)
- The money will be available within 12 to 24 hours after you went to the AVBOB Funeral Service branch to arrange the funeral
- The voucher and PIN will only be valid for three months
