AVBOB MEMBER REWARDS PROGRAMME: TERMS AND CONDITIONS

These Terms and Conditions apply to the AVBOB Member Rewards Programme, which if accepted by you, will govern your use and access to the AVBOB Member Rewards Programme.

Please read these Terms and Conditions carefully. All of the provisions of these Terms and Conditions are important, but please pay special attention to the parts that are in bold writing. These parts (in bold) contain information about provisions that have special consequences for you. These parts (in bold) are only intended to bring such provisions to your attention, and, where necessary, to explain their fact, nature and effect. Where explanations are given, they may be contained in a box. Such boxed explanations are aids to understanding only, and are not provisions themselves. They do not limit the meaning or application of the provisions, and do not apply only to the situations and examples described in the boxes or only to similar situations or examples.

You are required to accept these Terms and Conditions before you may become a Rewards Member and participate in the AVBOB Member Rewards Programme. Once you have accepted these Terms and Conditions, it will be binding on you, and constitutes the agreement between you and AVBOB Member Value Co regulating the AVBOB Member Rewards Programme.

AVBOB means AVBOB Mutual Assurance Society, a mutual assurance society incorporated in terms of the AVBOB Act, and a licensed insurer in terms of the Insurance Act, 18 of 2017.  AVBOB is the underwriter (insurer) of the Policies.

AVBOB Act means the AVBOB Mutual Assurance Society Incorporation (Private) Act, 7 of 1951.

AVBOB Member means any person designated as a member of AVBOB in terms of the AVBOB Act, which is limited to policyholders of AVBOB but specifically excludes policyholders of i) single premium policies; and ii) policies with a term of 12 months or less.

AVBOB Member Rewards Programme means the annual rewards programme established by AVBOB for the benefit of AVBOB Members to reward such AVBOB Members for their continued membership to AVBOB, subject to these Terms and Conditions. The AVBOB Member Rewards Programme is managed and administered by AVBOB Member Value Co (and/or any administrators appointed by it from time to time).

AVBOB Member Value Co means AVBOB Member Value Proprietary Limited, registration number 2023/928884/07, being a company incorporated in accordance with the laws of South Africa, which manages and administers the AVBOB Member Rewards Programme. AVBOB Member Value Co forms part of the AVBOB group and is a subsidiary of AVBOB.

Benefit Partners means a partner who may provide and/or make the Rewards available to Rewards Members on behalf of, or on instructions of, AVBOB Member Value Co (or its appointed administrator), subject to these Terms and Conditions.

Effective Date means the date on which an AVBOB Member i) registers on the self-service portal; and ii) accepts these Terms and Conditions, and iii) successfully gains access to the AVBOB Member Rewards Programme, and therefore becomes a Rewards Member.  

Rewards Member/You means an AVBOB Member who i) has registered on the self-service portal as a Rewards Member; ii) has accepted these Terms and Conditions; and iii) successfully gains access to the AVBOB Member Rewards Programme.

Rewards Period means the annual period of the AVBOB Member Rewards Programme, commencing on 1 January of each year and ending on 31 December of each year, if so elected by AVBOB and/or AVBOB Member Value Co in its sole discretion.

Personal Information means information relating to an identifiable natural or juristic person as defined in Protection of Personal Information Act, 4 of 2013. Personal Information does not include information that does not identify a person (including in instances where that information has been anonymised). The Personal Information that we collect about you may differ on the basis of the products and services that you receive from AVBOB and/or AVBOB Member Value Co (and/or any administrator appointed by it from time to time) and/or a Benefit Partner(s).

Policy means i) a policy of insurance underwritten by AVBOB, but excluding i) a policy underwritten by AVBOB in terms of which only a single premium is payable; and ii) a policy with a term of 12 months or less, ii) which Policy is of full force and effect on the Effective Date, and iii) which remains in force and effect for the duration of your membership to the AVBOB Member Rewards Programme.

Privacy Statement means the AVBOB privacy statement which applies to how AVBOB and/or AVBOB Member Value Co (and/or any administrator appointed by it from time to time) and/or a Benefit Partner(s) collect, use and process your personal information. The AVBOB Privacy Statement is incorporated herein by reference and is available at AVBOB Funeral Services | Funeral Plans | Funeral Policies.

Profile means the profile generated for all AVBOB Members who become a Rewards Member.

Regulations means the regulations promulgated under the AVBOB Act, as amended from time to time.

Rewards means rewards and/or benefits provided to Rewards Members by AVBOB Member Value Co as a part of the AVBOB Member Rewards Programme which may include but is not limited to vouchers, discounts, gifts, or other incentives, subject to these Terms and Conditions.

Rewards Platform means the digital system or software interface provided by AVBOB Member Value Co that facilitates the management, distribution, and administration of the Rewards to Rewards Members as part of the AVBOB Member Rewards Programme.

Terms and Conditions means these terms and conditions which govern the AVBOB Member Rewards Programme, and which must be accepted before an AVBOB Member may become a Rewards Member.

Website means AVBOB's website accessible at AVBOB Funeral Services - Funeral Insurance - Funeral Policies.

  • In accordance with the AVBOB Act and Regulations, AVBOB may from time to time, in its sole discretion, share mutual value with its members.
  • AVBOB has, in exercising its discretion, elected to launch an AVBOB Member Rewards Programme, which is a member engagement programme and allows AVBOB Members to enjoy mutual value.
  • For this reason, AVBOB incorporated AVBOB Member Value Co as a subsidiary of AVBOB to manage and administer the AVBOB Member Rewards Programme.
  • The Rewards to and from the AVBOB Member Rewards Programme may be secured from the AVBOB group of companies or from third-party service providers, known as Benefit Partners, subject to these Terms and Conditions.

  • The AVBOB Member Rewards Programme is available to all AVBOB Members who i) have registered on the self-service portal; and ii) have accepted these Terms and Conditions, subject to paragraphs 4 and 5 below.
  • Membership to the AVBOB Member Rewards Programme is available at no costs to all AVBOB Members. This is so since the AVBOB Member Rewards Programme is used by AVBOB as a means to distribute value to AVBOB Members by virtue of their membership to AVBOB.
  • Only AVBOB Members may be Rewards Members. The AVBOB Member Rewards Programme is not available to persons who are not AVBOB Members.

  • These Terms and Conditions are the rules that apply to the AVBOB Member Rewards Programme.
  • These Terms and Conditions explain, among other things, how you become a Rewards Member, how long you remain a Rewards Member and how you can earn and redeem Rewards.
  • Provided that you qualify to be a Rewards Member subject to paragraph 3 above, to activate your membership to the AVBOB Member Rewards Programme, you must:
    • register on the self-service portal; and
    • accept these Terms and Conditions, which will constitute the agreement between you and AVBOB Member Value Co in respect of the AVBOB Member Rewards Programme.
  • Failure to accept the Terms and Conditions will exclude you from participation in the AVBOB Member Rewards Programme.
  • Please consider these Terms and Conditions carefully. By participating in the AVBOB Member Rewards Programme, you acknowledge that you have read, understood and agreed to these Terms and Conditions.
  • These Terms and Conditions must be read together with the Privacy Statement and any Website terms and conditions and any other documents or agreements that describe the manner in which AVBOB and/or AVBOB Member Value Co (and/or any administrator appointed by it from time to time) and/or a Benefit Partner(s), in specific circumstances, collect or process Personal Information about you. This will enable you to understand the manner in which AVBOB and/or AVBOB Member Value Co (and/or any administrator appointed by it from time to time) and/or a Benefit Partner(s)will process your Personal Information.

  • Provided that you qualify to be a Rewards Member subject to paragraph 3 above, in order to activate your membership to the AVBOB Member Rewards Programme, you must:
    • register on the self-service portal; and
    • accept these Terms and Conditions.
  • Once you have registered on the self-service portal and have accepted the Terms and Conditions, a Profile will be generated for you.
  • You will receive an email and/or an SMS confirming that your Profile has been created.
  • You will be directed to the Rewards Platform wherein you will be able to access your Profile.

  • By accepting these Terms and Conditions, you warrant that all the information provided by you is true and correct and that neither AVBOB and/or AVBOB Member Value Co (and/or any administrator appointed by it from time to time) and/or a Benefit Partner(s) will be liable for any errors as a result of you providing incorrect information.
  • You hereby indemnify AVBOB and/or AVBOB Member Value Co (and/or any administrator appointed by it from time to time) and/or a Benefit Partner(s) (for whose benefit, this clause constitutes a stipulatio alteri subject to the provisions of clause 12 below) against any loss you may suffer as a result of having provided inaccurate information.
Paragraphs 5 and 6 have important legal consequences for you. In these paragraphs you take on liability and risk, our risk and liability is limited, claims you may have against us are excluded, and you indemnify us from loss or claims suffered by you or any other person.

    1. 7.1 Tiering structure based on your number of years as an active AVBOB Member
      1. 7.1.1 The AVBOB Member Rewards Programme is designed based on different tiers, which tiers afford Rewards Members with different types of Rewards depending on your tier.
      2. 7.1.2 The tier into which you will be placed, is determined by AVBOB Member Value Co with reference to your duration of being an AVBOB Member calculated retrospectively from the Effective Date as follows:
        1. 7.1.2.1 AVBOB Member Value Co will utilise your oldest active Policy ("Eligible Policy") to determine your tier, with reference to the number of full years that the Eligible Policy has been in force, calculated retrospectively from the commencement of the Rewards Period (and/or the commencement of any subsequent Rewards Period(s)) ("Tenure Calculation"). Only full year periods will be taken into account for purposes of the Tenure Calculation, and shorter periods will be disregarded and/or may be taken into account in subsequent calculation periods (if applicable).
        2. 7.1.2.2 Inactive and/or cancelled and/or terminated policies will not be taken into account to determine the relevant tier of an AVBOB Member.
        3. 7.1.2.3 Paid-up Policies (which have not been cancelled and/or terminated) may be taken into account for purposes of determining the relevant tier of an AVBOB Member, subject to paragraph 7.1.2.1 above.
      3. 7.1.3 The following tiers are applicable to the AVBOB Member Rewards Programme, and all Rewards Members will be allocated to a tier with effect from the Effective Date in accordance with the table below:

    1. 7.2 Earning your Rewards as a Rewards Member
      1. 7.2.1 Rewards Members may be rewarded for the following activities:
        1. 7.2.1.1 Updating Personal Information on the self-service platform.
        2. 7.2.1.2 Participating in Rewards Member engagement activities as may be announced from time to time.
        3. 7.2.1.3 Interacting with the Rewards Platform.
        4. 7.2.1.4 Participating in AVBOB Member Rewards Programme advocacy through various initiatives which may include referring existing AVBOB Members to the AVBOB Member Rewards Programme, updating Personal Information and such other initiatives as may be confirmed from time to time.
      2. 7.2.2 Rewards Members may, from time to time, qualify for bonus rewards for specific engagement activities performed within the Rewards Period, which specific engagement activities will be communicated to Rewards Members from time to time ("Campaign Rewards").
    1. 7.3 Rewards
      1. 7.3.1 Rewards Members will get Rewards in the form of vouchers, coupons and/or in-store shopping discounts, subject to the terms and conditions as may be applicable to such vouchers, coupons and/or in-store shopping discounts.
      2. 7.3.2 The Rewards may only be used and/or redeemed at the Benefit Partners as may be prescribed by AVBOB Member Value Co from time to time. The details of the Benefit Partners will be made available on the Rewards Platform.
      3. 7.3.3 The Benefit Partners may be selected by AVBOB Member Value Co, and may be amended from time to time in its sole and unfettered discretion as indicated on the Rewards Platform.
      4. 7.3.4 The Rewards are allocated to you as a Rewards Member and are therefore personal to you. For that reason, Rewards earned cannot be redeemed for cash and cannot be transferred in any manner.
      5. 7.3.5 Lost or stolen vouchers or coupons will not be replaced or refunded. AVBOB and/or AVBOB Member Value Co (and/or any administrator appointed by it from time to time) and/or a Benefit Partner(s) accepts no liability for such lost and/or stolen vouchers or coupons.
      6. 7.3.6 The Rewards will be forfeited if your membership to AVBOB Member Rewards ceases at any stage as a result of the termination of your membership as an AVBOB Member. AVBOB Value Member Co may, in its sole discretion, reinstate your membership if your AVBOB Membership is reinstated, subject to such terms and conditions as AVBOB Member Value Co may from time to time determine.
    1. 7.4 Redeeming your Rewards
      1. 7.4.1 Below is a process that can be followed to redeem your Rewards:
        1. 1. To claim a discount voucher
        • Click the ‘Discounts’ tab on the homepage on the Rewards Platform.
        • Find the offer you want.
        • Click on ‘Contact Me.’ A representative will call you back to assist.

        1. 2. To claim a rewards voucher
        • Go to the ‘Rewards’ Tab to see available vouchers on the Rewards Platform at your Profile.
        • Click ‘Get Voucher’ and select where you would like to spend your Reward.
        • Click on the 'See Redemption Details' button at the bottom of the page.
        • Follow the specific instructions for that offer.
        • You will receive an SMS or Email with your voucher code.
        • You need to present the SMS or Email with your voucher code on it at the store/outlet.

    1. 7.5 Validity of Rewards
      1. 7.5.1 This is the period during which a voucher, coupon or discount can be used or redeemed for its intended purpose by you as a Rewards Member.
      2. 7.5.2 Vouchers will be valid for a maximum period of 3 (three) months from the date of issue to the AVBOB Member.
      3. 7.5.3 Vouchers must be used/redeemed within the 3 (three) month period.
      4. 7.5.4 Vouchers that remain unredeemed and/unused within 3 (three) months from the date of issue will automatically be forfeited and be cancelled.
      5. 7.5.5 Coupons are valid for 1 (one) calendar month.
      6. 7.5.6 Coupons must be used within the 1 (one) month period.
      7. 7.5.7 Coupons that remain unused within 1 (one) month from the date of issue, will automatically be forfeited and be cancelled.

    1. 7.6 Expiration of Rewards
      1. 7.6.1 Subject to clause 7.5, at the end of every Rewards Period, all Rewards not claimed by you will be forfeited. This means that Rewards in one Rewards Period is not carried over to a next Rewards Period (if applicable).
      2. 7.6.2 Subject to clause 7.5, Rewards that have been claimed on the Rewards Platform, but which are not redeemed at a participating Benefit Partner, will remain valid for the Rewards Period, and will thereafter be forfeited in accordance with clause 7.6.1 above.

    1. 8.1 You will remain a Rewards Member as long as you continue to satisfy the requirements for membership as set out paragraphs 3, 4 and 5 above.
    2. 8.2 Notwithstanding the provisions of paragraphs 8.1 and 10, AVBOB Member Value Co reserves the right to suspend or terminate your membership of the AVBOB Member Rewards Programme immediately, to remove or refuse to award Rewards, or cancel benefits associated with your Profile at any time, and without providing reasons where we have reasonable belief that you have:
      1. 8.2.1 Violated these Terms and Conditions; and/or
      2. 8.2.2 Attempted to violate, abuse or engage in any fraudulent transaction to earn Rewards or to use vouchers; and/or
      3. 8.2.3 Acted in a manner inconsistent with i) the AVBOB Act and Regulations; ii) the terms and conditions of your Policies with AVBOB; and/or iii) the applicable laws and regulations in relation to the AVBOB Member Rewards Programme; and/or
      4. 8.2.4 Any fraud is committed in respect of the conclusion and/or maintaining of your membership to AVBOB and/or your membership to the AVBOB Member Rewards Programme; and/or
      5. 8.2.5 Any false and/or untrue representation is made to AVBOB and/or AVBOB Member Value Co (and/or any administrator appointed by it from time to time) and/or a Benefit Partner(s), for whose benefit this clause constitutes a stipulatio alteri subject to the provisions of clause 12.
    3. 8.3 You may cancel your membership of the AVBOB Member Rewards Programme at any time:
      1. 8.3.1 On the Rewards Platform making a cancelation request;

      1. 8.3.5 Please allow for 30 days for your request to cancel membership of the AVBOB Member Rewards Programme to be processed.
    1. 8.4 We may continue to communicate with you until we have received and processed your cancellation of membership of the AVBOB Member Rewards Programme, unless you have expressly requested AVBOB to cease all communications with you.

  • AVBOB Member Value Co shall at all times be entitled to amend any provisions of these Terms and Conditions from time to time and in its sole discretion. AVBOB Member Value Co will take reasonable practicable steps to inform you when changes are made, as well as the effective date of the changes. Without limiting the manner in which we may inform you, it could be that such notification may be by way of email (if you provide your email address when you register to use the Website), a "pop-up" notification on the Website, or a notification when you access the Website or any online services.
  • Subject to and without limitation of AVBOB Member Value Co's right to cancel your membership to the AVBOB Member Rewards Programme and/or to cancel and/or terminate this AVBOB Member Rewards Programme, upon the occurrence of a change in the applicable laws which impact the AVBOB Member Rewards Programme, AVBOB Member Value Co shall be entitled to make such amendments to the AVBOB Member Rewards Programme as it deems necessary to ensure compliance with the change in the applicable laws.
  • All changes to these Terms and Conditions will take effect from the date as mentioned in the amended Terms and Conditions.

  • AVBOB Member Value Co shall be entitled to cancel the AVBOB Member Rewards Programme in whole, or in part, by means of written notice to the Rewards Members, in its sole discretion.
  • In the event that AVBOB does not elect to make a contribution to the AVBOB Member Rewards Programme, the AVBOB Member Rewards Programme will automatically come to an end at the end of a Rewards Period, provided that AVBOB Member Value Co will give notice of such termination of the AVBOB Member Rewards Programme to the Rewards Members. Without limiting the manner in which we may inform you, it could be that such notification may be by way of email (if you provide your email address when you register to use the Website), a "pop-up" notification on the Website, or a notification when you access the Website or any online services.
  • AVBOB Member Value Co will honour all vouchers claimed by Rewards Members in accordance with the provisions of clause 7.5, notwithstanding termination and/or cancellation of the AVBOB Member Rewards Programme.

  • AVBOB and/or AVBOB Member Value Co (and/or any administrator appointed by it from time to time) will collect, process and retain your Personal Information in line with the Privacy Statement which is incorporate herein by reference.
  • The Privacy Statement describes how we will treat your Personal Information whether provided by you to AVBOB and/or AVBOB Member Value Co (and/or any administrator appointed by it from time to time) , or collected by AVBOB and/or AVBOB Member Value Co (and/or any administrator appointed by it from time to time) through other means in your ordinary use of our products and/or services, which includes access to our website and the Rewards Platform.
  • AVBOB and/or AVBOB Member Value Co may also collect and process your personal information through third party administrators appointed by AVBOB and/or AVBOB Member Value Co for purposes of administering the AVBOB Member Rewards Programme.
  • AVBOB and/or AVBOB Member Value Co (and/or the administrator appointed by it) may also share your personal information to the Benefit Partners for purposes of administering and making the Rewards available.

  • The provisions which reference AVBOB and/or the Benefit Partner(s), constitute a stipulation for the benefit of a third person (ie a stipulatio alteri) which, if accepted by AVBOB and/or the Benefit Partner, would bind AVBOB Member Value Co and/or the Rewards Member in favour of AVBOB and/or the Benefit Partner.

  • These Terms and Conditions and your membership or transactions stemming from your membership of the AVBOB Member Rewards Programme will be governed by and construed in accordance with South African laws and you consent to the jurisdiction of the South African courts in respect of any dispute which may arise in terms of the AVBOB Member Rewards Programme.
